History is Everywhere

Alright, I am a few days behind. I was too tired yesterday to write about what I did, but now here it is. I DID get a flight to D.C. Monday morning at 6:00 am. We arrived in the morning. The first thing we did was eat. We had Chick-fil-a, because it is nearly impossible to find them in Minnesota. I only know of one in the Twin Cities. Anyway, we went the the Air and Space museum, which is part of the Smithsonian. I actually found it more interesting then I though I thought I would. The historical aircrafts were cool to me. I’m very interested in World War II, so seeing the fighter and bomber planes from the war was amazing. I even saw Enola Gay, which dropped the bombs “Fat Boy” and “Little Boy” on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Cold War planes were interesting too. The aircrafts used during the Korean and Vietnam wars really caught my attention, because I just learned about them in school.

Afterwards we went to Arlington National Cemetery. This is the site of Kennedy’s grave and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I actually got to witness the changing of the guard. I didn’t take a video, because I wanted to be respectful, and filming that did not feel right to me. When we were done paying our respects we went to see Kennedy’s grave. This is the “Eternal Flame”. It was really cool to witness and be present at Arlington. I wish I had done more there, but I was not dressed for the weather. I was prepared for a warm spring break, but it has been in the 30s the last few days. I don’t have any pictures of Arlington on my phone, but I will be sure to upload them from my nice camera when I get home. 🙂
