My Favorite International Movies on Netflix

A great way to expose yourself to a new country and its culture is through its modes of entertainment, like movies. These are some of my favorites that you can watch right now on Netflix. These movies are also a great way to pass time during the pandemic. 🙂

Isi & Ossi (Germany)

This is one of my favorites on Netflix. It is a cute German movie about your typical rich girl who falls in love with a boy from the wrong side of town. I think part of the reason I liked the movie so much is that part of it takes place in Heidelberg, which is city I visited while in Germany. It was really fun for me to see the places that I went to. After I watched the movie I asked one of my German friends if she saw it. She had watched it and she loved it as much as me. We kept talking about the movie and how much we liked the ending. I highly recommend watching this German teen drama.

Despite Everything (Spain)

This is a fun comedy about four sisters who come together after the death of their mother. The movie is full of lots of plot twists and expected turns. The four sisters find out that they each have a different birth father and set out to find each one of them. Along the way they encounter heartbreak, breakdowns, and love. It is a cute movie that is great to watch this summer.

Let’s Dance (France)

If you like dance, romance, and France this movie is perfect for you. This is a movie about a ballet dancer who is forced to learn Hip-Hop after the owner of her dance academy hires his step-son as the new dance instructor. Of course after some beef between the two of them, they fall in love. It is an uplifting movie and is a great way to fulfill your love for France.

Lo Mas Sencillo Es Complicarlo Todo (Mexico)

This Mexican film is one of my favorite international movies. I have watched it a couple times. It is a cute and funny movie about teenage girl from a wealthier family who falls in love with her brothers bestfriend who is a lot older that her. Then when she finds out that he has a new girlfriend she does all she can to sabotage the relationship, but ends up learning a few hard lessons along the way. This is a great movie and all of the characters are relatable. It is a great movie to practice your Spanish too!

Battle (Norway)

This movie is one of my favorites on Netflix. The main character, Amalie, is a dancer and the daughter of a wealthy business man. When her father goes bankrupt her whole world is turned upside. Even her dancing suffers. After meeting a charismatic Hip-Hop dancer she rediscovers herself and her love for dance. It is a really good movie and I highly recommend it.

Love Per Square Foot (India)

I like this movie mostly because it is a great way to see and learn about India. Sanjay and Karina live with their families in India. They both really want to move out and buy their own house, so after a chance encounter they decide to enter an agreement that will allow them to both get what they want. Of course their plan is complicated along the way with romance.

Rich In Love (Brazil)

I really like this movie! Teto is the playboy son of a wealthy tomato farm owner. He decides to lie and become someone else after he meets Paula. Little does he know how complicated and tangled his lies get and eventually everything come crashing down. It is a cute movie and I promise that is will make you fall in love with Brazil.

Tini (Argentina)

This Spanish-language movie is based off a show, but I promise you don’t need to have watched the show to understand the movie. The movie is about Violetta, who is a famous singer living in Argentina. After getting her heart broken she decides to spend the summer at a Villa in Italy. Here she starts to discover who she is, makes new friends, and finds romance again. It is a really good movie full of catchy music. It is also a great way to see Argentina and Italy!

These were some of my favorite movies that you can watch right now on Netflix. I promise you won’t hate any of them. They are all cute, uplifting movies that will satisfy you travel bug this summer.
